First , after the weddingdate was set, I started with some test pieces, to see what I was going to create. A felted shibori scarf/wrap. I discovered that Shibori means,' to hold and store memories in fabric', now there is someting I can use.....
So I started of with an easy, simple pattern, and found the right material. Alpaca and silk, brushed. In a gorgeous colour. I made the scarf 45 cm wide and 175 cm long. In the centre part I shadow knitted a mountainridge, known as the ' Three sisters', which is so appropiate, for we are with three sisters.
after all the knitting, I had to think long and hard about the rest....i came up with this.
On one side of the scarf I layed the letter M, on the other side the letter H, the first letters of the couple.
I made the M in wine corks, with each cork I thought back to an extremely happy memorie that I share with my sister. I made the letter H in pebbles, with each pebble a happy memorie that my sister has with other people. Thus implementing the memories in the fabric....
Finally I randomly placed walnuts, with the disruptions of life, one for each person she has lost along the way....i tied every piece with a rubber band.
Than I threw it in the dryer.....😱😱😱😱😱
Scariest thing ever....within 14 minutes it transformed from a loose huge wrap to a completely ultra soft felted scarf...
It is magical....is is beautiful......it was well worth the work and effort.
